10 Ways Medical Marijuana Can Offer Relief

1. Multiple Sclerosis

Patients with multiple sclerosis can suffer from a wide range of symptoms that vary in severity and frequency from patient to patient. Particularly difficult are symptoms related to spasticity and pain related to spasticity. Medical marijuana can help to ease tension in those spastic muscles and relieve the pain caused by them.

2. Cancer

Like multiple sclerosis patients, cancer patients face a plethora of symptoms, many of which are connected to the appetite. For example, nausea caused by chemotherapy causes a lack of appetite or a reluctance to eat. This then contributes to weight loss which weakens the already weakened body. Medical marijuana is particularly beneficial in this aspect because it can stimulate the appetite while also relieving nausea!

3. Epilepsy

Epilepsy is characterized by seizure that are life-limiting and for patients with frequent seizures, life is particularly difficult. CBD and medical marijuana have been shown to reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures in some patients. While certainly not a cure, medical marijuana has been able to greatly improve the quality of life for many individuals suffering from seizure disorders.

4. End of Life Care

End of life care is a very difficult time both psychologically and physically and medical cannabis is able to relieve symptoms associated with both of these. Of particular concern for patients are the distressing psychological symptoms and the pain they might feel in the final stages of illness. Cannabis has been shown effective in dulling pain sensation as well as reducing anxiety and depression.

5. Anxiety

For some patients, anxiety can be crippling and completely eliminate any quality of life. Whether this anxiety is primary or secondary and caused by a primary illness, cannabis has been an effective tool for many patients in reducing anxiety to the point where a much more functional and enjoyable lifestyle is possible.

6. Insomnia

For many people insomnia may not sound like a particularly concerning problem, however, for those who suffer from chronic insomnia, the problem can be devastating and have far-reaching consequences. Fortunately, cannabis has proven effective in inducing sleep for many of these patients.

7. Arthritis

Arthritis is not only a limiting disease but it is also a very painful disease that leaves patients not only suffering the loss of independence from their illness but also the pain that comes with it. For these patients, medical cannabis can reduce the sensation of pain while also relaxing the body so that tense muscles can be relieved and the body can finally “let go” of all of that tension.

8. Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury patients frequently have to face muscle spasms that are exceptionally painful, fortunately for these patients, cannabis has been shown particularly effective in reducing these spasms and the pain and frustration that come with them!

9. Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s patients don’t “only” have to face “losing themselves” as a result of their illness, but they frequently have to deal with anxiety and fear over what the future may bring as well as unfamiliarity with previously familiar situations. For these patients, the anxiety-reducing effects of marijuana can be very helpful.

10. PTSD

Patients who suffer from PTSD are forced to face insomnia, nightmares, anxiety, and agoraphobia among other common symptoms. All of these symptoms are life-limiting as well as very distressing. Medical marijuana has shown to be helpful in reducing all of these symptoms through the relief of anxiety and the sleep-inducing properties that cannabis has.
