Today we’re going to talk a little bit about your first trip to your Florida medical marijuana clinic. It’s not unusual for patients to be nervous or worried about their first appointment, so in hopes of helping you to feel a little more at ease, we’re covering what you need to know.
Florida Medical Marijuana Clinic: Your Appointment
So you have made your appointment for your medical marijuana evaluation, but now, as the date draws closer, you feel yourself getting increasingly nervous. It’s completely normal to feel nervous, but it’s also completely unwarranted! At our clinic, we work hard to make everyone feel welcome in a friendly and comfortable environment.
So What Should You Expect?
Once you have made your appointment with an approved medical marijuana physician, your actual experience may vary, but here’s what we can tell you about your visit to our clinic.
Try to Relax
You may feel nervous at your first visit even if you do not usually feel worried about visiting the doctor. Many of our first-time clients tell us that they feel as though they are doing something wrong just by being at the clinic. We always explain to them that medical marijuana use is legal in the state of Florida and that (while we understand having a little trepidation) there is absolutely nothing to worry about!
Friendly Staff
Once you arrive for your appointment, the chances are that you are a few minutes early for your appointment time. Don’t worry. If you do show up a few minutes early, our friendly staff will make sure that you feel comfortable while you wait for your appointment time. If there is anything you need during this time or if you have any questions that our staff might be able to help with, please don’t be afraid to ask!
All of our staff at our clinic are friendly and open people and they are there to help you!
Questions and Answers
During your appointment with Dr. Tirmal he will ask you a series of questions about your current and past health history. He will also ask you if you have any questions for him.
During this question and answer period, it’s exceptionally important that you be as honest as possible with the doctor. Sometimes this can mean admitting to behavior that others may frown upon. This can feel daunting, but remember, your doctor needs you to be honest with them so that they can help you to find the best path towards relief from your chronic symptoms. Your doctor can only provide you with the best level of care if you give them the full picture of your previous and current medical history.
In addition to medical-related questions, your doctor may ask about psychological or psychiatric symptoms or conditions that have affected you in the past or that are currently affecting you. Again, BE HONEST! Although medical marijuana has been shown to be beneficial to many conditions, it can impact some existing psychiatric illnesses and your doctor can only consider this impact if you give them all of the information.
If, during your visit, you feel uncomfortable answering a particular question, be honest with your doctor and tell them that you feel uncomfortable and why. Your doctor will then be able to explain why it is so important that you answer that specific question or they may simply tell you that you can revisit this question at a later time when you feel a little more comfortable.
It’s Okay!
Nerves get to everyone at some point and it’s perfectly okay to admit to feeling nervous or afraid. Just remember to be honest with your doctor. Here at our clinic, Dr. Tirmal welcomes his patient’s honesty and will never judge you based on how you answer any of the questions asked of you during your first appointment. He firmly believes that the importance of honesty dictates the success of care and as a doctor, his first priority lies in the care of his patients.
